Early Life & Career Beginnings:
Blessing (Essor) Ugbe - Okorji was born in Nigeria (daughter of Chief John Ugbe and Tina Okorji). She grew up in the United Kingdom and she is also a mother of two adorable male children. Her talent in singing was discovered when sitting beside her grandfather learning his songs. Although a shy girl, as her mother considered her, Blessing was placed in her community church choir St. Mary's Church of England at the age of 8. She has progressed from then on. Blessing studied in North London Metropolitan University.
Music and Voice:
Blessing has referred to various artists who have influenced her musical style. She grew up listening to the powerful ministries of Yolanda Adams and Cece Winans. She also cites influences from artists Sade, Kirk Franklin, Prince, Aretha Franklin, Whitney Houston, Janet Jackson, Michael Jackson, Mary J. Blige, Diana Ross, Mariah Carey and Tina Turner. Blessing's music is gospel, but also has a soulful feel with traces of R&B, Reggae, and almost tribal African undertones that are divinely blended for a sound that has been thought of as creating its own genre; "Gospelafrisentric".
Songwriting and Producing:
Starting out managing her own solo career, Blessing came in contact with various producers but was intrigued with the talents of a young music director in Nigeria, Mr. Wale Owoade. Currently Blessing writes all of her own songs. They are inspired mostly by actual experiences which are taken from her personal life as well as the Bible. Blessing has co-produced all of the songs on her 9 track Debut Album, entitled ''Whole World In His Hand''. In this album which launched in March 2009, you will experience the gift that God has placed in this masterful encourager, so suitably named, "Blessing".
